SOOC - did not have to do anything and the sky/water really were this blue. It was a burn rubber on pavement moment as I had to pull off the road to capture.
The mountain is reflected a little on the water.
@chapjohn - Ha John! Oregon is indeed lovely - and of course Portland has the draw of Powells AND Fabric Depot (I am a reader and a quilter). But - there is nothing like the alpine wildflower meadows on Mt Rainier in August.......the Olympic rainforest is pretty spectacular - and we have the San Juans..........
@maggiemae - Thanks Maggiemae - this is in Washington - Mt Rainier - it never is completely without snow - although when the summer is hot, a lot more rock is visible - but there will be lots of Rainier pictures this summer, I am sure.
Stunning view! Gorgeous colour in the sky and water, must have been a beautiful day! Had to laugh though, had a funny image of you burning rubber to pull up!! That did make me chuckle ;-P well worth it though Jan ;) x
Wow, everything is so perfect, blue sky, mountains, clouds in front of the mountain and a great shot of the lake. Beautiful colour balance as well. FAV
Not your typical "postcard" view of Rainier! All three of its summits are clearly visible in your shot! From Wikipedia:
The broad top of Mount Rainier contains three named summits. The highest is called the Columbia Crest. The second highest summit is Point Success, 14,158 ft (4,315 m), at the southern edge of the summit plateau, atop the ridge known as Success Cleaver. It has a topographic prominence of about 138 ft (42 m), so it is not considered a separate peak. The lowest of the three summits is Liberty Cap, 14,112 ft (4,301 m), at the northwestern edge, which overlooks Liberty Ridge, the Sunset Amphitheater, and the dramatic Willis Wall. Liberty Cap has a prominence of 492 ft (150 m), and so would qualify as a separate peak under most of strictly prominence-based rules. A prominence cutoff of 400 ft (122 m) is commonly used in Washington state.
love this vantage point and love clear lake. The PNW has some of the best scenery in the world if you ask me. but I am a bit partial since I live in Washington!
