Please view large if you have a moment so you can see the snowman and the snow shoers standing and admiring it. This was at Paradise - 5,000 ft level at Mt Rainier National Park. Elevation 14,409ft - this is as high as you can get by vehicle at this part of the mountain. In summer these meadows are covered in alpine flowers and it's easy to see how it got the name Paradise.
These is some concern as to how low the snow depth is this year. Our local water source is reliant in part from Mt Rainier snow melt.
@cindy_k - Cindy - you can go to Paradise year round - however the hiking trails are closed. If you are snowshoeing there are usually trails open although not always at Paradise. The visitor center is open usually only on Sat/Sun 10a-4p in winter. Usually you can get a snack at the Inn or Longmire so there are facilities.
Wonderful shot, wonderful in large where you can see the snowman - a very large one too. In this area we are also concerned about the lack of snow and rain...
Beautiful shot of your mountain! Great light. Were you snowshoeing? Thanks for suggestion to view large.....fun to see the snowman. Seems we get a lot of snow the PNW still into Feb. We'll be heading home then just hope it waits until we get over the pass.
@eyesmile - thanks Gena - no - we didn't go snowshoeing - we just went for a drive - it's 90 miles round trip from our home to Paradise - a trek we make often. It was grey and foggy at the house - I looked at the Mt Rainier webcams and it was lovely so off we went.
Looks fabulous large Jan, the snowman really does show the majestic proportions of Mount Rainer! It's quite a drive from where you live, byr I can see why you enjoy going so much!
I wanna go there.. so far.. San Juan Mountains in Colorado with an elvation of more than 12, 000 if im not mistaken. It was my highest and scary drive one of the reasons why I could only meet 1-2 vehicle every 30 mins along the way..
