Practicing shooting in RAW and editing with my canon software. This is the bud of a Dawn Viburnum (Viburnum Bodnantense). It started budding out before Christmas and is always the first thing to bloom. It happily plugs on through rain/hail and even snow. The shrub doesn't look like much in summer but it's great bird habitat, and the fragrant blooms make up for what the foliage lacks.
@exposure4u@swilde@sweeps@sansjuan@laetitiapetrussa - thanks for the lovely comments - not so sure I should have set the purple fabric behind it - will have another go tomorrow outside if the rain stops. :-)
The purple fabric looks great! It gives a warmer tone to the shot. You do loose a bit of the subtle pink flowers, but the red and green comes out better.
@bristolrose ...hi Kathryn....the RAW version is unedited. If u shoot in RAW and jpg and upload in picasa you will see the difference. You can use the software that came with your canon to edit. I am not sure what I am doing but I am winging it.
@jankoos , thanks Jan, I will look into that. I usually just edit on my ipad. I need to get my act together and learn more about my camera. I have been winging it too.. I do like how this shot of the Viburnum looks 3d ish, not sure if that from being shot in raw..
@bristolrose ...I think the color helps....I placed some purple fabric under the jar I had the cutting in......then used AV mode for shallow DOF ......then played with the R AW file. I am still not so great with the canon software and no time to play a lot with it...but some of the functions are pretty self explanatory.
