I adore magnolias. You can see the velvety texture - and the buds are as big as a lightbulb. The first bold tree of spring.
March 1st - St David's Day and dad's birthday. If he were still with us he would have been 94. I was so happy to see so many blooms on is special day. He loved magnolias, too.
@btwebb@dmcoile@eyesmile - thanks for the nice comments - Gena - no - they just bloom once. This was down in Olympia near the waterfront - it's more protected - our local ones are just starting to bud out.
@nanderson - thanks Nancy - I am plugging along. Aggravatingly slowly - but hoping for things to improve soon. @grammyn - aww - thanks Katy - no worries - you are so kind to reach out.
Beautiful comp, colour and texture in this magnolia capture, fav. March 1 was also my Dad's birthday; he would have been 95. He died less than a couple of months before his 94th birthday. I always made sure he had some daffodils for his birthday because of its also being St. David's Day.
@tristansmum - I remember your posts from losing your dad, Stephanie - still so recent. My dad loved flowers and trees, and he delighted in having his kids bring him a bunch of flowers. My dad only lived to be 75, but I still miss him, and I always do something plant related on March 1st. This year I took lots of pics of his favorite spring trees and my hubby planted some huckleberries. Thanks for sharing.
I think the combination between old strong branches and the waxy new petals is so great, and it stuns me every spring. I think it is captured wonderfully here.
