Fly Agaric by janturnbull

Fly Agaric

Amanita muscarius - a 'proper' toadstool, growing with a few others at the side of the Bridgewater Canal in the UK. One of our most striking mushrooms, it is hallucinogenic and poisonous.
Its name comes from a traditional use of crumbling it into milk to attract flies, which became drowsy and died.
Lovely capture! Fascinating info as well. I've never seen these around here.

Yeah from what I've heard, they'll give you visions alright, but also make you wish you'd never eaten them. I'll stick to the culinary kind, and read some Kafka if I need to expand my mind haha.

Fab. My mum told me of when she was foraging for mushrooms as a child in Finland and couldn't understand why she couldn't pick the beautiful red mushrooms with white spots instead of all the boring brown and white ones. Glad she did as she was told...

Interesting, I didn't know that about the name. Thanks for the Turkey tail name too!

I love this, I wonder if the slugs get a high after munching them. Great capture.
