Rush Hour Traffic on Key Bridge by jbritt

Rush Hour Traffic on Key Bridge

I biked to Penn Camera in DC this evening to pick up a foam case for my telephoto lens. I had planned to use bubble wrap but the day before my flight I decided a real case would be safer. I'm hoping to photograph wildlife in Yellowstone next week and if I see any I'm sure I will be glad to have my telephoto lens. Otherwise, I will wish I brought my macro instead.

I stopped on my way home to take photos from Key Bridge. I wasn't impressed with my photos, but I was impressed with the quantity of bike and pedestrian traffic on the bridge, especially since the upriver side is much harder to access than the downriver sidewalk. I heard that Arlington is planning to install bike counters on the bridge soon--they may also be surprised at the traffic volume.

It seems strange that the car traffic backs up going INTO Georgetown and seems to flow freely coming out of DC. The other bridges have the opposite traffic flow in the evening rush hour. Maybe I just can't see the backup on the bridge because the traffic light on the Arlington side is so far away.
Stunning color!
