I picked up this seed pod this morning somewhere between the Mapleton Mens shed and the Mapleton shops. It is about 2 cm in diameter and from the Liquidamber tree, specifically Liquidambar styraciflua. Apparently it is also called a Gumball tree in USA, but haven't heard it called that in Australia.
@jamibann@365projectclmutlow Thank you for your nice comment. @lynnz Yes, nature is always amazing - and especially so wclose up. @yaorenliu The seed pod is green when it is on the tree. This is a very old one that has dropped to the ground, dried out and shed it's seeds. The liquidambers are a popular garden tree in the cooler parts of Australia for their coloured leaves.
