Ok, I know that George Washington did not sign the Declaration of Independence. (But I happened to have this image of him that I took of a painting my Dad did trying to copy one of the famous portraits.)
In July 1776, Washington was Commander of the Continental Army, and was defending New York City. Washington read the Declaration of Independence to the army on July 9th.
@shutterbug49 thank you. Dad was a god painter. I just wish he had done more than he did. He was a bit too much of a perfectionist. He frustrated my Mom so much that she took up painting and she produced many more than he did - different styles.
