Courting Peacocks by jesika2

Courting Peacocks

For 5 minutes he circled her, tapping her wings which were mostly tight together, with his antennae. He must have won her heart because they flew away together.
I've never before seen any species other than Small Tortoiseshells doing this drumming activity.

I've watched some of the courtship flights that various species make, very interesting. Great find, this warm weather is bringing the butterflies out now, I've had at least five different species in the garden today.
Brimstone, Speckled Wood, Comma, female Orange Tip and a Holly Blue.

@markp lucky you. No Sp W, OT or HB yet. But I did find an Elephant Hawk Moth pupa which I hope will eclose next month. Mrs Brimstone inspected my Alder Buckthorn a couple of weeks ago. I have hopes of babies...
