@kerrynz We are expected to take them outside until -20 degrees. If I give them a choice, they prefer to go to the gym to "shoot hoops." They live and breathe basketball up here. It's been a VERY warm winter so far. Hardly below zero at all. In years past, we'd spend literally months at a time inside because it would get to 30 and 40 below.
I remember going to school when it was still dark, and coming out when it was already dark!!!!! So, this reminds me of my school days. Our schools were only cancelled when it was -25 Celcius (-13F) and that got all the school kids playing outside since the school was out. :) @kerrynz@jetr
So you only currently receive 4 hours of daylight? wow ~ you must REALLY be north! Gorgeous sunrise ~ and on the bright side, you get to see them all ;)
@kerrynz@vera365@cruiser@krekerele@francoise@mbemis@notperfectbutmine@sitiodown@helly31@chris17@ukandie1 Thanks everyone! I do enjoy watching the sun come up these days! And yes, I am VERY far north! I am about 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle on the Kobuk River. We are in the Northwest Arctic Borough. It's pitch dark when the kids come to school. It gets light around 11:30 these days and it's pitch dark again by 5:00-ish. There are no paved roads, so everyone either walks, drives a 4-wheeler or a snow-go. We BUNDLE UP!! It's a grand adventure, even 8 years later. :-)
@jetr oh I would so love to be having a grand adventure up there. I was a classroom assistant before I retired so am very interest in your school life, so different from here in Australia
