April's choice: (The Unphotogenic) Red Velvet

Since Susie rarely makes cupcakes that have cream cheese icing, I had to get this one. Who cares about photography with a mouthful of cupcake, anyway? (Edit: yes, it was very very delicious)

I originally thought that this subpar result was due to the minor case of reverse macroitis I have in my left wrist, making it hard to keep the lens steady. But now I remember that I didn't remove the UV filter on the lens first. Lesson learned. I tried to order a reverse macro adapter ring today, but Amazon.com won't send it to Canada. Screw you too, Amazon.com. I will try harder to get one locally - one more shop to check that *might* have one.

I think the shot still looks great - you can really see the texture of the cream cheese icing (which looks absolutely delicious!) and I love the fact that there are just two colours in this photo but it is still compelling.

I don't think this is subpar at all! I wouldn't have noticed about the filter if you hadn't mentioned it and I think the composition and match between the color of the sprinkles and the background is great!

@pwallis ~ Didn't think there was as much in focus as my other 2 tries. Maybe there is, but once I remembered about the UV filter, it just made me feel like an idiot and not like the shot. ;)
