Wild day 2 by joysabin

Wild day 2

Day 2 of my wild month. IR with a different take on the trees. This is a bit of Elden Pueblo which was a prehistoric Native American village located at the foot of Mount Elden near Flagstaff, Arizona. The Pueblo is thought to have been part of a major trading system. Various trade items such as macaw skeletons from Mexico as well as shell jewelry from the coast of California have been found throughout the site. The area is now protected and is used for research and educational purposes. There was a group of school children visiting so I will have to go back when it is less 'inhabited' and get more shots.
Interesting read. Looks like a solid structure, the wall.

I searched for more pictures under 'Elden Pueblo'. Beautiful dry-wall or rock wall constructions. I wonder if any clay or mortar was used, or are the rocks just fitted together tightly - as seems.
Nice photo.

it sounds like an interesting place to revisit (without the school children) :)

Another fascinating result from processing! Great stone versus tree contrast.

Fantastic perspective! I am very happy I saw your photo yesterday because it reminded me of the theme.

There's such an interesting surreal quality your processing!

@overalvandaan This is just on the outskirts of town, I finally stopped in and was surprised how many sections/rooms there are. I just hope that this little site doesn't get swallowed up in the future.

@octogenarian I am not sure, I will stop in at the local Ranger station, just down the road from the Pueblo and ask. I am always wanting to learn these types of things so, I'll let you know. Thank you so very kindly for the fav.

@deborah63 I feel bad that I've never stopped but now I know how cool it is so, I will be going again.

@taffy Thank you very much, The IR really made the difference in contrast.

@nearlyincontrol Thank you so much, I truly appreciate the fav. This is an infrared shot that I played around with in Photoshop.

@joemuli Thank you most kindly for the fav.

@brett101 Thank you so very much. I think that the school kids were wondering why this crazy lady was sitting down in the dirt with her camera.:):)

@jyokota Thank you a great deal, IR can be so strange but also interesting.

Great textures and colours there.

@maskerade Thank you so much. I am definitely going back to shoot again.

Sounds like a very interesting place to visit I have to say. The stone wall is very impressive, not something we see much in the south of England more in the north of the country. I like the editing but I find IR confusing in the sense that my mind keeps telling me the colours are not true, eg, the trees are not really that colour. I like it though, the IR makes the trees look quite soft to the touch.

Wow.

IR is great!i didn't know that these filters actually capture color i thought IR makes it look like an x-ray.
Well composed shot

@stephanies I again apologize for my horrible delay in responding to your comment. The IR is strange, there isn't any other way to explain it. I find it somewhat frustrating that the trees sometimes are a different color even though they are the same species of tree. It must be my exposure and settings but I haven't figured that out yet. The faux color does take getting used to but I like the broader range of textures that IR can give, though this is much more evident in monotone.

@pickerandagrinner Thank you both for your positive comment and your patience with my not responding sooner.

@gerry13 I like IR a lot but am also frustrated at times. I did convert my old DSLR and had the sensor swapped out for an IR one. I first tried to use IR filters but the extreme exposure times were way to difficult for me. When using IR filters you have to compose first and then screw on the filter and make the exposure. I also found that the lens was calibrated for IR and I was getting what they call 'hot spots', where the image had very strange colors but only in certain areas. I guess my patience with filters was much too thin. Its a learning curve for sure but I do recommend that you consider it.

@joysabin You are really into IR photography.I have heard that most cameras if not all have anti-IR filters in front of the sensors to fix many problems caused by IR when shooting normally. As far as i know using a filter is the easiest way but if one is serious about this he must definitely get his camera "fixed" especially for IR
