Mercado Central is the main fish market. We avoided the touristy cafes in the centre and ate with the locals. My fish soup contained several unidentifiable molluscs!

You were brave but good to have had the experience - eating with the locals - but they wouldn't eat something that was bad!

Eating hot local food is always the safest. I reckon a hotel breakfast buffet can be dodgy.
