My Twinkies...!!!!

After crossing through the knee-high, weed-filled field behind my apartment, along the dirt path, Delia waddled over the railroad tracks and followed the little trail, beneath the huge lighted "George's Drugs" sign, to the edge of South Main.
Delia was a portly girl, about a year younger than I. She was large enough to be a little afraid of.
Delia tried to cross S. Main, presumably to get to the Woolco & Safeway on the opposite side, Just as I, and all of the other kids in the neighborhood had done hundreds of times. It was the 70's and parents weren't so over-protective.
Although just a road, it was more like a 4-lane highway; cars traveled at 55 mph.
Delia did not waddle fast enough across South Main.
With all of the cruelty that adolescent boys can muster, the joke around the neighborhood afterwards was that her last words, as she became airborne, were, "My Twinkies...!!!"
I had to deal with something similar just half an hour prior to snapping this photo.
I hadn't thought of Delia in over 30 years.

A beautiful photograph and a story which makes me very sad. I confess that in my life I have had moments of wanting to do something very bad to some adolescent boys.

I'm so sorry you've had this recent experience. Your writing about your haunting memory is equally as fascinating as your photo.

@tristansmum @cejaanderson Yeah, I observed a pedestrian getting hit by a car that night. He appeared okay after, though. Just made me think. Of this.
I am not happy with this shot. It was shot at a high zoom level & it shows.
