I borrowed my 7 year old neighbour for today’s walk. It’s half term, her mother’s trying to run her business from home and I was happy to field questions about whether their resident fairies had ever been spotted in our garden (they haven’t as they are scared of dogs & cats). The walk was a big success featuring 2 tiny fairy dolls made and donated by my children’s author friend Rebecca who happened to wave at us from her window, groups of flying swans, a kingfisher, two Dinky Doors, a fancy coloured sculpture thing for swifts, the new Clare College residence that has flying swifts over its frontage and another swift residence on the roof, a random hedgehog installation on a garden wall and the local ‘bring a book, take a book’ cabinet. There’s been a request for another walk on Friday but I think I may have peaked with today’s offering. This Dinky Door is next to a very funky postbox and to add to the excitement the post lady came to empty it and let us look inside.
As you know we have lockdown diets required in this house so I couldn’t justify a whole batch of pancakes between two so we’ve had spinach and ricotta savoury ones as well as lemon and sugar.
Weather: dull
Covid: local cases 20% of the levels a month ago.
Good thing: I’ve booked the chiropractor.
That sounds like a real treat! Love those walks through the eyes of a child. I think I sometimes forget to enjoy them, because I'm to busy with where we're going to. And I think you can enjoy them more when it's not your own child 🤔🙈
Lockdown diets!? I'm not dieting till this is over - full-on pancakes for us - and we normally share them with our neighbours so all very odd just us two ...
Well I am lockdown dieting too and am having no pancakes at all!
What an eventful day today. You crammed so much into a grey and miserable day. Love the dinky box. Is this secured to the ground? I think I would trip over it as I’m not the most observant
This is an amazing little post box. Sounds like a very successful walk. I heard an item on the radio this morning saying when you take children for a walk you should make it into a story about where you live! It sounds like you did just that!
@judithg - ha ha - it's barely making a dent in my wodginess - I can honestly say I've never been so overweight - a stone and a half heavier than normal ... :-(
Judith , it sounds like you had a wonderful walk and adventure. I bet you loved it. On a technical note , pillar box , not postbox, we had a postie at camera club and he was always keen to emphasise "pillar box"...my dad was a postie too !
That is fantastic, I want one! And loved reading about your walk, so much fun.
PS We always have savoury pancakes first and then sweet too. I do a mix of rice with mushrooms, courgette, onion and tomato to stuff in the middle. Tried lime instead of lemon on my pancake last night - really liked it!

I had my pancakes with sugar and lemon. My last blast.... I’m giving up sugar for lent.
