At 3pm a lone chorister's voice will mark the start of 'Nine Lessons and Carols' from King's College, Cambridge with a solo rendition of Once in Royal David's City. The service is a gift to the City of Cambridge but with the power of radio it is enjoyed by millions of people around the world. I've been to the Christmas Day service but never Christmas Eve as I've rarely got time to spare for queuing from early morning. But actually I really enjoy listening to it on the radio and once my sausage rolls are done I'll be swapping that coffee for something stronger. So a very Merry Christmas from Cambridge and spare a thought for that chorister as he nails the first note (to counter nerves, apparently three or four are prepared to sing it and at the last minute the choirmaster gives one the nod.) @Cherrill I'll be thinking about you and Delia especially - I do love 365!!

@jgpittenger You can get it on iPlayer I think - and the mince pies are just fruit so you'll be alright with those (sausage rolls not made yet but you wouldn't be wanting those)! Happy Christmas!
Very lovely composition! Yummy looking pies! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Thank you for all that you add to this project...great photos...fabulous ideas....and an sense of humor!!!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Judith. I listened to 'Nine Lessons and Carols' from Kings on the radio and now I'm watching it on the tv. I always seem to miss it somehow, but this year I've made of point of watching, it's such a wonderful gift and tradition.
Lovely photo Judith & you have the same radio as me !! Looks so festive in your house with the mince pies & holly !!! Love Christmas Eve even more than the day itself I think specially when the kids were small & there was that excitement in the air !!! Thanks for all your special photos over this last year I have really enjoyed your 365 friendship !! Happy Christmas to all your family !
@happypat Likewise Pat!! It's been a fun year. I was also thinking today that I like Christmas Eve the best - I like the Christmas Eve food preparation and as you say the anticipation is the best bit! I just wish I could remember whether I have wrapped all of the presents and where I've hidden them!
aah nice one. Didn't listen but that totally reminds me of our old school carol service where some small child (the girl version) used to have to sing this as everybody entered. I was firmly hidden behind the largest instrument in the orchestra!
I know it is recorded earlier in the day, but it wouldn't seem right
listening to Carols from Kings during daylight!
Lovely photo, by the way, captures the essence of the day!
Merry Christmas, Judith!
