I have been aghast today to hear that the police in Chorley tazered a blind pensioner because they mistook his white stick for a Samurai sword. He was remarkably good spirited as he described how he was yelled at (of course he didn't realise it was aimed at him), tazered, leapt on and tightly handcuffed having lost grip of his 'sword'. Chorley is next door to my home town and we did used to make jokes about it but really!
I had a splendid path of fallen yellow leaves in mind for today but when I got to it this afternoon the leaves had been swept up. Still - yellow bike with yellow legs behind to the rescue. The poster is for Sheridan's 'The Rivals' in fact which solves the literary reference issue for today. Although the only thing I really know about the play is that Mrs Malaprop is in it.
Three good things:
1. I have passed muster enough to get another child to read with.
2. Appalling road works in town make me appreciate the days when the roadworks are only a pain in the neck.
3. The words of Mrs Malaprop, '"...promise to forget this fellow - to illiterate him, I say, quite from your memory." Though obviously she was an amateur compared with George W, 'It will take time to restore chaos and order' Bush.
Have you got lots of Chorley followers Judith...how big is that much maligned town!!!!!!You can tell a Chorley accent anywhere but they have a brilliant small case hospital! It was disgraceful what happened to that poor guy, hope he gets compensation!
You are very yellow today.... love this cheerful looking bike so well fitted up with lights.
Congratulations on your pupil number two!
Really nice shot. Judith! I love close-ups of mechanical things! Dentist today in Addenbrokes part of Hills Rd, planned a quick little pop into town with Lucy afterwards, but aborted it when we were warned about the roadworks. We wouldn't be popping anywhere!
@tishpics No but there are weird quiet bits as everybody is trying to divert. Getting in to the railway involves getting over the bridge, going down by the Botanic Garden, along Trumpington Road, on to Lensfield Road and up Hills Road in the other direction (I think - I assume they allow you up Lensfield Road - it could be worse!) And guess what - they are digging up the whole of the Silver Street/Queen's Road junction next week and East Road is already dug up...I despair!
Roadworks sound complicated, great for the reading, a very cheerful and yellow bike....poor man!!! Maybe the police need spectacles! What on earth was he doing that they became so worried about his intentions??
@ruthmouch Nothing - they'd had a report that there was somebody out with a Samurai sword and when they shouted at this chap he assumed he was going to be mugged and kept walking away. But they don't seem to have any excuse - he was shouting, 'I'm blind, I'm blind!' and he's had a couple of strokes so it's a wonder they didn't kill him - somebody's going to be in a lot of trouble....
chorley judith .....Peter Kay 'put it on the map' ! I was offered a job at a software house in Chorley when I graduated from Uni' ....I came to Nottingham instead
I have many blind and visually impaired friends who tell the most horrible stories of their experiences - but I think this one takes the cake! Poor fellow. Love the yellow with the silver and black.
Bloody peculiar tale that one. How can you mistake a white stick for a samurai sword? Snap with the yellow transportation pic - I've taken shots of bikes today and yesterday for potential candidates for my themed pics - but they've all been crap. This is really nice.
cool yellow bike - horrible blind man tale. There was a blind man outside work almost being run over by a bus - the new roadwork system isn't very helpful to those poor of sight. thankfully there appears to be enough kindly people to help them...horrible when you are behind a crowd thinking "someone help..." but good when they do!
Could mistaking a walking stick with a Samurai sword be considered a physical malapropism I wonder. Such an unfortunate event.
Fabulous POV and brilliant pop of yellow in this shot.
Yellow bikes are the best! Some day I'll have one, too. That story sounds really awful... a bit like the one about the American teenager who was taken into custody because she playacted shooting with a schnitzel...
You are very yellow today.... love this cheerful looking bike so well fitted up with lights.
Congratulations on your pupil number two!
Gonna have fun checking out your project :-)
Nice yellows
