We drove over to Rugby today to watch hockey. Rugby pitches in Rugby were under inches of water so it's a good job hockey is played on Astroturf. Heading directly East to West across the country it seems that every river has burst its banks. There were stranded sheep and cows and an awful lot of submerged trees. Heading home the SatNav took us to a flooded road and having heard from somebody else spectating that they had seen somebody grind to a halt in the middle of a submerged stretch of road I turned round - only to find the alternative route also flooded. Luckily we were on the shallower side and I got through but not without cursing an anti-social 4x4 heading through in the other direction at speed and causing a tidal wave to flood underneath every other low slung vehicle on the road. Some fabulous photo ops if we could have stopped on the A14 - dramatic flooded fields with amazing sky/tree reflections - but you're lumbered with hockey.
Still three good things:
1. Winning the first match 6-1.
2. Winning the second match 15-0.
3. Lovely sunny weather (not great for photographs) and the wind dropping to icy but not dangerous, and getting home in the light and in between rain storms.
Marvelous shot. The B&W perfectly puts the focus on the action. Very impressive wins!!
I've seen reports of the flooding rain and damaging wind in the UK. It sounds like a dreadful situation. The trip home must have been a nail-biter. Do hope you start to see some improvements in weather conditions this week!
@peggysirk We've had it easy compared with the west - it's clear that there's nowhere across the country that can accommodate any more water though and sadly it's on its way.
You are having a bad time with the flooding, not too bad here thank goodness but so sorry for those affected. Flooding always seems to happen around Christmas too which makes it heartbreaking! Love this black & white action specially the guy in the air!!
@happypat That's Adam - I chopped his head off! Very wet on the parks here and the river may well be over tomorrow but no flooding of property so far I don't think. It's the same people over and over as well despite variou defences - horrible.
We've been pretty flooded around here too...not personally but roadwise. I think the ignorant 4x4 drivers are everywhere unfortunately. Great action shot xx
Great action shot, and it must be frighting when the floods are like that. It rained all day here so I am sure some places are flooded so hope everyone is ok.
