Leaning on a lamppost at the corner of the street

I love this corner at the end of Senate House Passage. Trinity Hall is on the right and the closest thing to 'The University of Cambridge' is on the left - the 'Old Schools' admin building which has a fantastic bay window high up and I think houses the old law library??? More freezing weather and quite a bit of snow when I was out this morning so I confess that this is one from yesterday. I got water inside my camera yesterday so I'm feeling it needs a rest before I get it wet again.
Three good things:
1. My old neighbour's son got back to me about my letter writer. It turns out that the adults that he lodged with died a long time ago but as far as he knows the children are still alive. And Michael who was 5 at the time was his best friend so he had had a lovely time reminiscing about the freedom that they shared, running through fields (all unattractive housing estate now) to see the steam trains stopping at the village station. Michael grew up to be an artist and had his own advertising agency (which interested Adam as that is what he wants to do) but I can't track him down. I'm hoping that the daughter's of my neighbour on the other side may still be in contact with the little sister so all is not lost yet.
2. I mended the washing machine - the repair man can't come till Friday so I did some Googling and fixed it myself.
3. I've booked my 'slow leak' tyre in for repair - hoping that there isn't a third thing.....
Great composition. Lot of bikeage in this! Know all about wet cameras (too many puddle shots!). Looking forward to the 28th!

@rich_t Yeah me too - hopefully it will be dry and we won't have to worry about wet cameras!

Oh I thought wet meant death........I'm paranoid about water having read that they secrete special paper in the camera which tells the manufacturers if it has got wet inside!! I might google my tumble dryer which refuses to get hot....good thinking Judith!! and a lovely shot too, love the monotone, makes the stonework outstanding

Love the title! Nice mixture of architectural styles here and the monochrome suits it well.
February 11th, 2013
oh god......monochrome.....what is happening to my brain?

Like the sepia tones. Well done on the repairs. Saved yourself some money there!

Congrats on the washer. I love this photo- composition and the edit really draws out the detail of the stonework. I love how the buildings and bikes seem to draw the eye to the women

Lovely composition. The sepia tones make it seem less damp and cold (which is a bonus at the moment).
February 11th, 2013
Great shot and really like the puddles in the foreground.
February 11th, 2013
@fannyb Oh I'm done for then... It's often at least damp. Sitting it on top of towels on a radiator dried it out but I panicked when it was dead this morning (flat battery). Cold dryer sounds like a spare part issue!

lovely in sepia. I am really enjoying your letter writer story..! i think water in my camera killed it last year..had to send it back to jessops to revive it...too bad i can;t do that any more..i will have to look after it and stop doing low pov shots..x

I love the fact that you have kept the height of these lovely sand stone buildings, many would have have been inclined to crop! I see there are special signs for bikes too!
I think mending your own washing machine is beyond the call of duty Judith... think of the call out charge alone!
The hunt goes on in your quest but you are doing very well up to now.

Marvelous rainy day composition, Judith. And perfect tones to match the weather. I can see why your camera got a bit damp.
Yea for you for your washing machine repairs! Google is going to put a cramp in the repair business. I googled repairs to our dishwasher, fixed it, and it works beautifully.
You are uncovering some wonderful stones with your search for your former homeowners...

Typical Cambridge scene, nicely done. Enjoyed your next instalment on the quest. Well done on the washing machine - do I feel a new job in the offing?
February 11th, 2013
@fueast Not really - I pay a fortune to the Gas Board - but I saved myself waiting in for hours for some bloke to pull half of my best bra out of the drain pipe....
February 11th, 2013
@judithg Oh but that could have been a good photo op :-)
February 11th, 2013
@fueast Or not!
February 11th, 2013
I love the tones and your angle on this.

Lovely shot Judith. Love the old lampposts.
February 11th, 2013
Love, love, love the color tones!

The song came to mind as soon as I saw your title. I could see George Formby (or how I imagine him) as soon as i saw it. Great shot and I echo everyone else's comments
February 11th, 2013
I love the sepia tones here, the letter writer story is so intriguing but best of all you fixed the washing machine your self, good for you.
February 11th, 2013
Thats a nice style. I like it in Sepia.
February 11th, 2013
I like the way you used the lines of the building in this shot. Yay for fixing the washing machine yourself!!! And thanx for the update on your detective work :).

Lovely colour and height to this picture. Hope the camera is all right I've had to make an anorak for mine, knew all those years watching Blue Peter would come in handy!
February 11th, 2013
Lovely shot and good on you for fixing your washing machine.
February 11th, 2013
Lovely color and perspective. Love that you included so much of the buildings. The lamppost is fab!
February 12th, 2013
Love the shot and the sepia tones - almost ageless. Do you do call-outs?

February 12th, 2013
