If any one thing draws me back to Florence it will be the Basilica of Santa Croce. On this trip we spent probably a bit too long looking at the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo, Rossini and others and didn't leave enough time for the frescos by the altar. This isn't the main alter which is being restored - it's one of a series of much simpler alcoves either side of the altar. This one (I think!) painted by Giotto. I should have taken more photos but the tourists and the scaffolding put me off because I couldn't get the perfect shot. I should have ignored trying for perfection - and in fact if I ever get back there I won't try to take photos I will just stand and look.
I agree sometimes you miss so much with your head behind a camera...I have been cross with myself many a time because I never saw anything only through a lens, better to see the thing properly in the first place!!
This is impressive stained glass. so rich looking 7 those wonderful paintings round the edge...stunning!
Awesome......so much skill and care and they have lasted all these years and still impress! I haven't been................yet! But I do love the ones we visit in UK!
Looking forward to some art in Amsterdam when we go to meet up with Connor and his mum and dad in a couple of weeks.
Enjoy your trip!
Beautiful windows. I am a firm believer in taking the pictures while your there, I forget details and rely on my pictures to jog my memory, so much forgotten by not taking pictures for years :(

You've kept detail in the window, which is hard to do
