We had summer this afternoon. And the river and town where wonderfully chaotic. I have photos of socks, swans, cows creeping up on unsuspecting tourists, punting mayhem and Vikings (quite a lot of them). But through the door of Queen's College was a little oasis of peace and tranquility. I will try to do something with the other lot when I get some energy back. Not that I've done anything strenuous today - quite the opposite - I think that's why I'm tired! Rachel has taken out 8 punt tours back to back - that's tough going and Adam is off to do his 6 hours of waitering. I'm going to read my Kindle with a cup of coffee :0)
Four good things:
1. A convoy of cycles decorated with balloons and flowers and towing various kids heading from the Registry Office to Granchester. Bride and groom looking super happy - about 20 people, one cycling ahead to take photos and all having a whale of a time - no need to spend £20K to have a memorable day. Sadly no photographic evidence as I was driving :0(
2. It was summer this afternoon.
3. I have at least weeded the front garden.
4. Got to get out early with Monty tomorrow before it gets TOO HOT!!!
It's been a lovely day today and I've done loads of washing and got it all dry and ironed and put away. This looks like a really nice peaceful place away from the mayhem. It sounds as though Cambridge has been lively today which is really nice. I can't imagine that it will get too hot tomorrow. Bring it on!
What a wonderful varied day you had Judith! I love the sound of that wedding...don't you just get a little tired of the same old thing at weddings, not that i have been to any lately sadly but that one sounds so happy & simple!! Cathy & Garth are at the next door neighbours sons wedding at the Inn at Whitewell which is sure to be a corker there.
Love your peaceful oasis has a great feel to it away from the frenetic pace of our lives.
I have done nothing myself today except watch Wimbledon & know i will pay by waking in the night!!
You've captured a peaceful and tranquil little getaway from the summer madness! Sounds like there's lots to see and photograph in Cambridge -. I must make a visit soon. The last time I visited was as a young teen when I forgot to let go of the pole when punting and ended up in the river and had to sit in wet clothes all the way home.
@fueast She's getting paid for this - taking money from visitors. Yes sorry - summer's done. @happypat I've just booked in at The Swan in Newby Bridge next year for my cousin's wedding - looks amazing. Would stay longer but Adam will be doing his AS's. I'm hoping Rachel might be happy with a couple of dozen in a field somewhere - I'd put some bunting up. I do think they've got over- complicated. Mind you they were lucky with the weather because it was raining all day yesterday - no wonder they were smiling - all very arty looking - I'd have loved to take some photos as it was quite unusual and photogenic.
@judithg The Swan at Newby Bridge is lovely Judith, we come back that way from Hawkshead sometimes & all the little lights are on, looks very cosy! My brother fitted the kitchens there a few years ago!
The simpler the wedding the better I think!!!
She looks totally absorbed in what she's reading. Love the wedding story........oh how exploitation has taken over as far as weddings go!
We've had summer this weekend and after lots of serious weeding yesterday we've had a gentle day today! Moderation I call it!!
Did you actually write too hot..i am spell bound blow some up north....nice sneaky picky..anyway i am off tomorrow to rest the sunshine from the Spanish and bring it home to Manchester..i think ten days in Barcelona is enough to wrestle away some sunshine in the meantime take care and do not work to hard...
Nice moment of solitude. JB and I had planned some bike-based nuptials (well, sort of nuptials - a big celebration of having put up with each other for twelve years rather than an actual wedding) for this summer, but we postponed when I got pregnant. Another time...
