I dropped Rachel back to university today - we're going to have to get a bigger car if her kit expands any more! This time last week an 18 year old boy was murdered pretty much outside her door - At least two lives wrecked - the murdered and the murderer because one of them thought it was a good idea to carry a knife. And they were only there because the social club on the road was holding a fundraiser for a headstone for a 16 year old stabbed a year earlier - what a terrible waste. There's a been a 'shrine' opposite their house but it was moved to a church by the police this morning to discourage gangs from hanging around holding vigils. There is a very dignified letter from the victim's family pinned to the fence and just a few petals left as a reminder.
Three GT:
1. Rachel has made her room really nice and has grandma's quilt on her bed - it looks lovely.
2. A fabulous response to my misty photo - really made my night!
3. The 'youth' response to the stabbing has been to point out the stupidity of carrying knifes - not retaliation.
@exidia It actually had a very nice feel to the area - full of students - I just think if only he hadn't had the knife there may have been fists flying but nothing permanent - and he was apparently protecting a girl so there's another traumatised teenager as well.
@fueast Blimey a girl can't have a night or two off! Mega headache last night and had a few jobs to tick off post Brum tonight. I seem to be losing my marbles - I was all set to go to London tomorrow and then looked at the exhibition ticket and it's next weekend....
It is really tragic that a life has been lost just because of the carrying of knives! When altercation happens it is so easy to whip out the knife! If they didn't have them, fists would be used which is less damaging! However I don't think its going to change? Gangs are the problem.
Oh how tragic. It must make you worried about what's going on there. This is such a sad picture, with the few petals left behind and the little note. What a waste.
How very sad to see this....just shows you don't have to be a trouble maker to get into danger like this...not a happy thought for us parents when you can tell your kids to keep away from danger when it's all round you.
Glad Rachel was Ok going back & has made her room homely...could be a bit dicey going back after the holidays!
