On a stick. They go round in spiral - must be some sort of Fibonacci going on. @lucypics and Saski did their best to get me an action shot yesterday - well today - 20th - whatever - I can't do these retrospective posts) but I was useless. So it's all festive food today. I like to do sprouts a la Nigella with chestnuts and Marsala so you can hardly taste them.
I witnessed an ugly scene later in the morning when buying dog food. Heads turned at the sound of a young man yelling at his partner at full volume. They got in the car (him in front, her in the back) and he was rocking backwards and forwards, hammering on the steering wheel and then turning around and screaming in her face, telling her she had made him angry and she needed to sort it out. Quite a few people blatantly stopped and stared with a view to making it clear that they were being watched and he better hadn't hit her but it was still violent in my view. I left eventually as I'm afraid to say I was quite scared to intervene - he was totally out of control but as he wasn't being physical I didn't think the police would come. Maybe they would have - or maybe I should have knocked on her window and asked if she wanted a lift somewhere - I was willing her to get out of the car. The sad side of Christmas perhaps - mercifully no children in the car or I would have called the police but still I didn't feel I had done the right thing.
One good thing - Rachel is driving tonight for Nigel's birthday dinner - she rarely touches the hard stuff and as my cycling plans are going out of the window (as the wind picks up) she's making herself useful.
How handy t have a daughter driving...Lydia failed her test on Thursday ..a silly little thing to do with a double set of traffic lights...i think her instructress should have taken her through them as her previous learner had failed there too!
Fabulous DOF Judith & I love brussels...not over cooked of course!!
@happypat Oh what a shame - there are some very confusing double traffic light about. I have amended my post in a rather dismal way I'm afraid - I was reminded by Weekend Woman's Hour!
@judithg I also some thuggish young man in Fishergate shouting at his girl friend telling her she ''was out of order '' etc no one seemed too concerned but I was horrified, what is the world coming to!!!
So you can hardly taste them, that made me chuckle. I think Judith you did do the right thing, to intervene May have made him more angry and then you would have gelt responsible. This probably happens all the time and to interfere is fruitless plus you may have got a punch. People who can't control their temper should not be approached! Luckily as you say there were no children party to the ugly scene. Ho hum, enjoy your sprouts and think no more about it xx
Lovely shot and thoughtful discussion of your encounter. I've heard several discussions recently about how/when bystanders should intervene in situations. Definitely a hard call.
The most unsual pov of a sprout tree I've ever seen. Happy birthday, Nigel - I thought he had a birthday a little while ago, but it must be a year ago of course!
(I believe the hype surrounding Christmas has been shown to have some effect on some people's behaviour but could be lots of reasons for what you witnessed and I think you were right to leave well alone.)
I like what @lucypics Lucy says! Domestic violence is one of the worlds worst problems! I agree that it should be taught as a child on how to control your temper. We all have temper flare-ups. As for Brussels sprouts- they should be totally eliminated from Xmas dinner- except hubby loves them!
Brussel sprouts? Cool shot! This is such a timely post concerning your witnessing of that horrible scene. I just watched a video concerning bullying...and how people reacted to a violent situation between strangers. It has empowered me to react the next time I see something unsavory going down. If nothing else to call the police and let the persecutor know it... http://liftbump.com/2013/12/saw-guy-attacked-anything-stop/
@judithg It's hard to know what to do in difficult situations. But that video really puts things in perspective. I know now that I will do something. Let me know what you think when you have a chance to watch it. We had an interesting discussion about that video on fB.
a sprout shot at christmas... I did one today....I might post it tomorrow ...nice DOF...you don't know what to do for the best when witnessing something ... from your description a call to the police may have been the best option/
