The Kama Sutra by judithg

The Kama Sutra

The long grass mixed with knapweed and thistles on the chalky Gog Magog Hills is perfect habitat for marbled white butterflies. And as it's been a mild winter I'm guessing we are nearing the peak time for them to be active (mid July on an average year). @lucypics and I found the meadows dancing with them and as I was equipped with the wrong camera she leant me her wonderful machine to catch this pair. The female is the browner of the two. They have very pretty markings - especially from underneath - Lucy took a lovely photo of one displaying all of it's patterns.

Three GT:
1. Up and out early while it was still cool enough for a dog that needs a haircut.
2. Meeting @dolphin for coffee and cake.
3. An undisturbed afternoon (apart from photo posting) to get some work done.
Wonderful capture and a Fav!

Great capture! Kind of scary but we have so few butterflies here now... Really has dwindled the past 2 years

fabulous shot. FAV

btw, I like how their tails are fitting together. Reminds me of the tails on those balsa wood airplanes kids play with...tail has a slot that slides onto the body of the plane.

Brilliantly sharp, Judith, and definitely a fav. See you're already trending! Great to see you both this morning. As I commented to Lucy, it doesn't look good me turning up just for the cake!

You & @lucypics had a great walk by the looks of your lovely photos......all those butterflies sound a sight for sore eyes...we have non round here just a few white Cabbage ones. Wrong soil perhaps & too much plain grass. God to have a go with someone else's toys too! Fave .

@happypat not many sightings in the NW Pat - very rare apart from the odd one around Lancaster!! But not many in East Anglia either so you never know - if you can find a chalk meadow....

@judithg don't think we have such a thing as a chalk meadow up here....now clay!! We never get any good butterflies boo hoo!

You are an inspiration to get great pictures from tiny things! I don't have butterflies or even one casual slug but do like seeing them on 365!

Tessellating butterflies! And you know their names again!
July 2nd, 2014
Oddly named, aren't they? Marbled WHITE & yet they are really browns. No matter, they are stunning what ever their name & this is a lovely image. I haven't (yet) been fortunate to find a mating pair.
