Peking ducks in a row

A very good day. Firstly I got a night's sleep before exam results were due which is almost unheard of but I've managed it twice for AS's now. I don't know why because they are very important for university applications. Anyway - when I looked at my phone I had a text from Adam who was in the middle of an all night party in Berlin (!) saying I could check his e-mail for the results, 'If I wanted'. Eventually I decided that he might be offended if I didn't so I did the scary deed and they were everything he wanted so that was OK. Late afternoon Nigel and I headed into London clutching tickets for Skylight starring Bill Nighy and Cary Mulligan. As seems to be the norm when I go to London there was a torrential downpour which somewhat limited photos but I snapped these Chinese newspaper boxes outside the restaurant we went to in Chinatown. And onwards to the best play I've ever seen. Brilliantly acted, fantastic, clever set and amazing script. Much appreciated by the audience including both of us.
An interesting shot.

Quite a weird sight, very English telephone box among all those chinese paper boxes! Very colourful.

Really great news about Adam - not quite so good here - but as disloyal as it sounds he pretty much got what he deserves - school want one re-mark (1 mark off the grade boundary for maths), they also want him to do a few resits of modules and a delayed by one year uni application - Hopefully he will have learned a lesson. Such mixed emotions for a mum...................

BUT that play sounds great - I will look it up and hope it is on for a while and there is availability. I have got some theatre vouchers that need using up and need to get something in the diary. Also, there is something about Bill Nighy..................

Sounds amazing. Like the shot too! We get to see Matilda with the family tomorrow - the joys of having a 6 year old grand-daughter.

Love the reflections in the wet!

Nice bright colours to photograph in the wet, especially! Good for Adam - you would be pleased too!

@jantan well one was art so no revising for that (though quite a bit of stress during the year) and he's doing PreU psychology that only has one exam at the end of two years (part of the school's plan to make everything as hard as possible!) so he only had maths and biology to revise for this year.

Very colourful.

@jantan might be worth calling the box office & see if they ever get returns? Also they did a live cinema version so if may come out on films on demand eventually.

this is a wonderful splash of colour judith :)

I think I'd brave torrential downpour any day to see Billy Nighy in person - I love him! Good news about the results and at least the colours in this picture take away some of the dreariness of the rain.

Great Composition

I agree Judith a very good play, I enjoyed it immensely though only as a live cinema showing it might have lacked the same atmosphere.
Glad Adam did well....such a nervous day for dad's & mums,,,Cathy had to have the day off work & a good job as Lydia didn't get the grade she wanted in Psychology so missed her place at uni for Speech Therapy @jantan ......she was devastated so a year off to try again! Luckily Jack got into Sheffield at second go! Hard time! Couldn't celebrate one because of the other!!

@happypat psychology seems to be a hard exam. Is there something she can do to increase her chances for next year?
August 20th, 2014
@judithg she has been in touch with the local deaf school & trying for local old peoples home...sorry not the right title but that's what it is. Her form teacher at school has told Lydia how impressed she is with the way she has dealt with her disappointment & all the research & ringing up she has done to improve her chances. Most of her friends got their places even with in one cast two grades lower but as Lydia's is an NHS course & so many applied they can fill the places ten times over. She has thought about Occupational Therapy too which isn't as hard.....they have raised most of the grades in Speech Therapy next year to at least 1A & 2 B's ..most of them 2A's so doesn't get easier!

That's tough. Occupational therapy would be interesting I imagine. Has she done the wrong subjects for audiology (I think you may need physics?) I always fancied radiology myself!
August 20th, 2014
@happypat sorry didn't do the reply. I meant radiography as well - radiology is a doctor thing!
August 20th, 2014
Oh I am so sorry to hear that @happypat So disappointing after all that hard work, and such an achievement to even be offered a place on such a comptetitive course. It is such a different world for them these days.
