So as a change from the mammoth autumn clear out I'm undertaking I spent the morning ironing. In fairness I've been reading The One Plus One by JoJo Moyes so the morning didn't start till quite late. I started reading it on Friday afternoon and there was a serious possibility that it would jeopardise all of my clearing out targets as it was definitely 'un-put-downable'. Thinking woman's Mills and Boon but very enjoyable. Anyway Nigel and Rachel got back quicker from Cardiff than I expected so I had company on my dog walk to Jesus Green. The Horse Chestnuts are struggling under the infestation of leaf burrowers again and many haven't produced many conkers this year. I can't actually remember what a healthy tree looks like in the autumn any more. I may go and google it...
I could be sad that it's the last day of August but for the fact that September is my favourite month in Cambridge - the tourists and hordes of language students have died down (though not so much the Chinese who are year round visitors) and the students are yet to arrive. It's nice when there's activity but it's also nice to have some space especially as the population grow inexorably year on year. A great time to visit - you should come!
thank you for sharing your day with us! I can almost see it. I like the fact you can't identify what is in front of this chap - it could be cricket balls, but probably isn't, could be a large penguin playing baseball! I am not really sure!
I might come....possibility I might visit my sister in the next few months as she starts her chemo...will see how it goes.
No sign of any leaf borrowers in Cathys Horse Chestnut...it has cookers on it ...must look!
Is this Nigel & Monty in disguise? Beautiful focus on the leaves even if they are leaf burrowed!
Great focus and light. I nearly stopped off in Cambridge when I came through on my way back from Birmingham an hour or so ago, but felt quite tired. Was noticing the horse chestnuts along the Backs, and thinking the same thing about how poorly they looked. I've been doing lots of clearing out lately, but in fits and starts. What to do with all the rubbish, though?
@maggiemae@happypat@fueast Yes - Nigel and Monty - not a penguin! He is leaping on to his ball in case it gets away - Nigel is heading towards ball number two. Alison is coming but she usually leaves it fairly tidy for other visitors!! Pat you know where we are any time you want to see your sister.
@dolphin The depressing thing is that the house still looks a mess as I have charity shop and 'friends with small children' piles as well as a big bonfire pile and the normal and recycling bins are full. It's quite scary how heavy on the planet we are.
Beautiful shot, Judith. I used to iron all the time but now I really don't like to iron anymore so I have about 4 shirts that have been waiting to be ironed all summer. I should get to it. LOL
You don't have to tell me twice. As soon as the girls are a bit older I'll be back to show them where their mama didn't study too much but rather ran around taking photos ;). Lovely depth of field even though it is really sad for the chestnuts - our little home-grown tree doesn't look too good itself :(.
I'm unconvinced by September as a month though. I like the new-term-ness of it, tidying things up and doing the grown-up equivalent of buying new school shoes and pencil cases. But I miss the summer, and don't feel ready for the wheel to have creaked round another notch, and Sep doesn't have the decisive identity of, say, Nov.
