I've been doing 365 so long now that this is my third 'Adam's birthday cake shot' (I went for a photomontage for his 16th). I notice that last year I made the same cake but was rather mean with the candles. On the other hand I was a lot more successful with the white chocolate ganache topping. My fault for weighing the cream which is, of course low density, so I put my measurements out. Anyway - 18 - all grown up. Apparently there is a school tradition to put photos up in the corridors etc of the birthday person for 18ths. The school has tried to discourage it by having their own slide show in the 6th form assembly of people who have turned 18 during the week. Adam says that the school was absolutely bombed with terrible photos of him yesterday morning - several of them drunken (I assume they must have taken a lot of photos on that ONE occasion!!) (Actually he doesn't drink all that much - I don't think - none last night because he was dehydrated after hockey and has learnt the hard way before apparently.) He also got a birthday e-mail from his tutor after she found a photo of him in her office (a nice one with our cat which is 'SO embarrassing') and a handshake from the head of 6th form who much have been ignoring the usual uniform transgressions for the day and all the evidence of underage drinking.
Love the story, especially the photo tales! Had to chuckle. The cake looks wonderful, clever you, who needs bake off. Love the reflections on the candles.
Happy birthday Adam......how lovely of the school to acknowledge such important a birthday. I am impressed by all that foodie talk...ganache...who says we can't learn anything from Bake Off!
What a beautiful shot - happy, happy birthday to Adam! Wow, 18 years old, now I feel old... he sounds like such a responsible boy - probably due to his good upbringing :)!
