Just wait till Friday! by judithg

Just wait till Friday!

As they don't announce these royal visits till the day before and then only in the local paper they are quite low key. I only knew because Adam has friends at schools near the queen's route who had been given time off lessons to wave a flag. And if you remember the porter photo from Prince Philip's visit last month they don't always create much excitement - but I have to say that the atmosphere today was just lovely - and lots of tourists from around the world, as well as locals, were delighted to find they had an impromptu view of the queen. It was nice to see that flags were being sold for charity too. If you're wondering what she was up too - she was opening a new facility at the Botanic Garden and attending a garden party at St John's College in honour of their 500th anniversary - how nice that she doesn't have to do the catering for this one!! I imagine the royal fever on Friday will be a bit more dramatic!
great shot Judith

Don't you just love the red, white & blue flags ? I have just been painting my flag pole today & putting a new flag up, they soon get tatty with the wind. Great topical picture Judith, bet you can feel the excitement in the air !

@happypat I'm not the biggest royalist ever but it was lovely Pat - the Queen's visit made everybody smile today and the blue sky was fabulous (it was grey and threatening first thing) - as she walked up to St John's the porters raised the flag up the pole! I have to admit I was jealous of the students walking along in their suits and gowns clutching their invitations - sadly they didn't invite their past students!!

I love this photo. The guy looks a real character. And whatever you think of the royals, this photo captures a little bit of history.

The atmosphere was good - but I saw two young scallywags in trouble with the law on the college side of the road! Don't know what they'de done wrong, mind.
