This smallish building sits in the town square in front of the magnificent Lavenham Guildhall which is like this with the sort of limed(?) oak structure only much bigger and rather more ornate (yes I know I could have a put up a photo of that but I liked this more!). This is now home to the local estate agents who have some very quirky properties to market! The small town has some lovely hotels and very nice shops. I was tempted to leave Monty with the blokes who were standing outside with dogs waiting for their wives!! There are also numerous lovely tea shops and a 'knitting cafe' which had some gorgeous-looking wool but was unfortunately closed. My walk with Monty into the countryside was a little disappointing TBH but there are lots of other routes we could have taken so I'll have to try a different route next time. I also called by the Farmers Market which was unfortunately mostly inside but there was a vintage ice cream van outside selling 'Alder Tree fabulously fruity ices'. I did take a pic of the nice lady but she had her eyes closed - and I have to tell you that their Gooseberry and Elderflower ice cream was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. Like a sorbet-ice cream fusion - and definitely one of my five a day! http://www.alder-tree.co.uk/
@humphreyhippo I can't tell you...they have quite widespread outlets selling it. I was torn between 'rhubarb and ginger' and 'gooseberry and elderflower' and she said the latter is their biggest seller gorgeous goosegog flavour....I'm going to dream about it!
Such a picturesque place & so English Judith. I love the stone monument & then the lovely old fashioned building beyond which looks to have some rather high tech stuff inside. You would go inside to look at houses even if you weren't looking !!!!
The ice cream does sound gorgeous although it has to be very hot outside before I will eat ice cream!!!
Ah gooseberries. My parents had a white pine tree farm and the wild gooseberries harbored a rust...so we had to pull them out...but not before stripping them of the berries (very spiny the wild ones) and eating them. And to think you can buy a gooseberry ice cream! I've never eaten elderflower - but have eaten many elderberries - one and the same plant?

Love the composition - loads of texture on the old stonework.
(Just teasing)
