Saturday walk by judithg

Saturday walk

Dog walk with entertainment - waiting for the 5 minute cannon, porters manning the 'door' of one of the private parties, the view from a rare elevated position (parties in various gardens on the left bank), old boy...

Super collage, love the geezer in the cap! Also had a chuckle at the idea of a 5-minute priest :-D

@ellida knew I'd spelled it wrong somewhere - I've been reading the Granchester mystery with Canon Sidney!

Cambridge is a complete world of its own......who has private parties outside with 'porters' to keep out the gate crashers ....there is a whole way of doing things here that none of us have any idea of! You must have wondered what on earth was going on when you first got there! All traditional stuff though so al Cambridge will know what to expect every year!

@happypat oh I forgot to say Pat - the boats are all owned by colleges. The big colleges will have boats for every crew, the smaller ones will have to share. You can tell which college by the colours of the blades on the oars. They rely quite heavily on donations from past rowers, one of my old college friends donated a boat which is named after his believed aunt - Dame Margot Fonteyn! Definitely a different world - it suddenly gets all posh but the porters actually are for Lucy Cavendish college which is a cool place - the students are all mature students and all women - time yet Pat!
