I have always liked photos of peoples backs, this is for the artist challenge, looking at Carrie Mae Weems 'The Jefferson suite' 2001. http://carriemaeweems.net/galleries/jefferson-suite.html
I am a bit wary because i gather her work was very political and motivated by racial relations in the USA which i know very little about,
an interesting quote by her sums it up best,
"I want to make things that are beautiful, seductive, formally challenging and culturally meaningful, I'm also committed to radical social change... Any form of human injustice moves me deeply - the battle against all forms of oppression keeps me going and keeps me focused."
very much like the light and dark. When I saw her exhibit at the gallery, it was the kitchen table domestic story. I had no idea that so much of her work was political, but went for her any way. The images from the kitchen table almost burned themselves into my mind, so strong.
before francoise posted her challenge, i had this idea in my mind that i would like to do a project of photographing the back of people's heads. seeing this series later on, i figure someone must've thought of that idea and done it so now i have to think of something else that i can call my own. butts have been done by yoko ono a long time ago. maybe ears? aces on this, my friend. aces!
Channeling Carrie Mae Weems's images if not her radicalism. But
everything is political...even this strong portrait.. imagine posting this in different times, different situations, different cultures
