Stan's self portrait by kali66

Stan's self portrait

Went to see my lovely friend Stan and he showed me a large photo he had framed of a self portrait he did in stone many years ago . Stan was a coal miner, and at times when he was a young man his job was sitting on the weighbridge which involved many hours of sitting around waiting . so he occupied himself carving the 120million year old stone with a filed down nail. He has several pieces and the detail is quite something. He is adamant he felt at the time it wasn't really him doing the carving but something that came through him, a gift.
Very impressive.

@henrir the original piece is much smaller than this, but quite heavy due to the density of the stone.

He certainly does have a gift. What a great piece. And for an almost 90 year old minor he still looks great!

That's what real inspiration is, you channeling ideas through your body/mind. Well done Stan you have created real art.
