My daughter just graduated from the University of Oregon today. She is standing on the far left. Though she had her cap and gown, she didn't have a tassel. So she pantomimed moving the tassel from one side to the other after receiving her diploma. No big deal. The grad standing to her right chose not to wear a cap and gown at all.
This graduation ceremony, by the way, was one of the most fascinating experiences I've had the pleasure of attending compared to others I've been to. The students pictured here hail from the Department of Comparative Literature - Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and the Department of German and Scandinavian. My daughter double majored in German and International Studies. She'll be moving to Germany this summer to work as an Aus Pair (domestic assistant from a foreign country working for, and living as part of, a host family).
I congratulate you and I am sure you are the proudest Mother of All! As far as the person not respecting the cap and gown, all I can say is "Yea Right, what a waste"
A moment to be proud of, and I like this capture of their back views. In Cambridge students without the right gear (even down to the colour of men's socks and obligatory tights for women) aren't allowed to graduate!
Fantastic photo and great info. Shame about the guy not wearing cap and gown, its such a great day after all that hard work. Sounds amazing and your daughter must have worked so hard, so right to be proud :) Good luck to her for her future :)
