On my lunchtime photo-walk today, I found a Horse Chestnut tree on the White House front lawn in full bloom. The blossoms are high off the ground, but I managed to get this shot of three of the standing stalks of blossoms. It's an unusual specimen for this area.
@jyokota Thank you, Junko. I didn't know there were horse chestnuts in Chicago! I'll be visiting in Iowa soon and I'll look for them there too. I've read that they're native to South East Europe, so they've been cultivated here.
Very nice...so fun to see things we don't see around here. Those leaves are enormous. How great you get to walk around the White House grounds on your lunch hour!
@khawbecker -- I used to live in Iowa and I don't remember whether I saw them there since I only learned the name "horse chestnuts" here in Chicago. My mother noticed all those little round balls that hang like ornaments and we asked what they were.
