'Winter Rose' - a rather ugly spiky leafed plant which has these lovely unusual flowers.

We call them Lenten Roses and I find them lovely. In fact, I think I have this same variety. It often pops out of the ground and blooms while still covered in snow - pretty hardy!

@timandelke Yes, they are known as Lenten Roses here too, but more often as Winter Roses for some reason (maybe because it blooms in winter!).
