Before 1882 there was a wild strawberry grove in this place, this was arranged by Alajos Strobl, the legendary “sculptor pope”. The former garden was larger than it is today and included most of the surrounding streets. The first studios were established in the 1870s. It has belonged to today's Hungarian University of Fine Arts since 1921, its studios and the Parthenon-Friesian Hall, the exhibition hall of the Department of Sculpture.
