Hawaiian Sand by kwind

Hawaiian Sand

We found these cute glass bottles at the market last night and filled them with sand for the kids today. We have four hours until the taxi comes to take us to the airport for our red eye flight home. Just enough time for dinner and some last minute shopping.
Nice souvenir! Great photo. I love the depth of field.

Sorry, I'm being silly but I am thinking of those T-shirts that say "My parents went to Hawaii and all I got was this T-shirt." Only yours got sand. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have a weird sense of humor. Hope the trip home was uneventful.

@amandal It's our anniversary in June. It was just a spontaneous trip for the two of us. We both missed the kids though
@joansmor We have similar humour. I actually thought the same thing! The kids were surprisingly excited about their little jars!! I wasn't expecting their reaction.

@vickisfotos Sorry to laugh, Vicki! But your random sand in little black containers story is priceless. At least you have the sand!

@maggiemae The sand made it through security, customs and immigration without a hitch and the kids were excited by the gift...that part surprised me the most.

Phew, sometimes my sense of humor gets me in trouble. From the reaction of others I am not surprised at your kids. Who knew.

Wonderful idea! Once in a design magazine I saw this beautifully appointed, minimalist house where they had a shelf with bottles filled with sand from all the different places that they had visited....they were all the same size and labeled very discreetly, but the sand was all different colors. I tend to bring shells, pebbles and corals from the beaches, but as with @vickisfotos I would forget to label them and ended up with a medley that now fills up vases! Oh, and there was a beach with black sand in Maui where I was tempted to collect sand to bring home, but then I read that it was bad luck and gave up!!

@panthora the sand that stands out in my collection is from Kauai...it is all just the tiniest of shells...and a tooth! no actual sand. it is great.
