Not the best photo but it was taken from my car with an iPhone. I saw this giant black bear slowly crossing the road about 5 minutes from my house today. As cars approached, he/she turned around and ran into the bushes. There were no cars behind me so I stopped and there he was, standing by the tree no more than 20' from my vehicle. I rolled down the window and took this!
@bkbinthecity Bears and cougars are all around but people don't see them that often. I did see a bear last summer while riding my bike on a nearby trail - I got off it quick and took the 'roads' home and another one the summer before while hiking in a trail about 20 minutes from home. I'm a bit of wimp and tend to stick to the roads to walk and ride during bear season. Cougars have been an issue this year. One was just shot in a residential neighbourhood. Two others were spotted by some kids next to the skate park five minutes walk from my parent's house. Here's an article (with a video within it): https://www.campbellrivermirror.com/news/cougar-shot-and-killed-in-campbell-river/
Lovely capture, but I cannot get my head around killing animals because they "trespass" into residential areas. Wasn't there an option to tranquilize and relocate?
