My birdfeeder is finally up and I'm working on learning the names of the local birds who might stop by to visit. According to my bird identification book, this guy is hard to photograph because they are "always in motion." That does seem to be the case, based on all the blurry photos I took. But I need a better book, because mine doesn't show both the male and female of each bird, so maybe my guy is a gal.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I'm sorry I'm so behind in commenting myself because I'm really missing your beautiful photos. Work has taken over my life lately, but I hope to catch up soon.
This is lovely, Laurie. What a great capture, as I know they do NOT sit still very long. Like you have TIME to learn about birds now? Love you always, Aunt Sandie. PS: I've also been working too much, too, and falling behind on my 365 caring and sharing. This too shall pass? :)
This is an excellent idea. I have a bird bath outside my window and see so many birds. As they pause to drink I can capture them on camera. Good luck. If all your shots are as delightful as this one you"ll soon have a lovely collection.
Beautiful shot! They definitely don't sit still for very long, so I'm impressed! What bird book do you have? I have the Peterson's field guide, which sometimes shows the female, sometimes not. I have had pretty good luck using it to ID quite a few birds, and it was an indispensable piece of gear when we had the boat in Orleans.
awesome capture of your new house and visitor! s/he is posing so nicely for you! i read your article and enjoyed it very much. i like the suction cup feeders for the hummingbirds. we have a few of them and they're amazing to watch. great to hear about the heated bird bath too. you're all set!
Nice catch, Laurie. It's wonderful to have a feeder in your yard to attract the birds. It'll be worth the 7 hour drive tomorrow just to sit out with my morning coffee on my parents' sun porch and watch all the birds come and go. Hey, I hear you'll be there too for Thursday pizza night. Can't wait to see you can catch up!
You're absolutely correct about them not staying still. I spent the better part of 20-25 minutes trying to catch a photo of one. The difference is that I didn't have a single clear capture by the time I was through.
This is a beautiful shot, Laurie! I have been looking and looking lately for any birds in my hood and just can't find any. I finally realized, my neighbors have not filled up their bird feeder. I am so leary getting my own since we are in such a small area. I don't want waste everywhere, but I do love the birds....contemplating...
look at you Laurie..what a great technically sound shot...I am impressed...love that you got your feeder up and now you have more beauty attracted to you... :)
