My husband bought this birdhouse for me at an antique shop for my birthday 16 years ago. It resided in my herb garden for a very long time perched on top of a birch post, which eventually rotted away. Now it rests on a stump at the end of our wood pile and was kind of forgotten. I was so happy to see the chickadees are using it once again.
Looks great! I have a family of sparrows that come back year after year! They have about 3 broods each year! It is literally at the deck between my stairs and back door. It's fun to watch them when sitting on the deck or eating dinner outside!
@lorihiro Lori put it very well. Love the real estate! I also love that you know your husband gave it to you 16 years ago. Sweet description and photo.
there's nothing better than a good old well built home:) Look at all of the character in that house.......love it!! great shot Laurie.....the chickadee is such a cutie!
@ptowncook I remember the exact b-day because a friend got married that day and I was pregnant with my son. Steve and I spend the early evening driving from Dennis to Chatham on Rt. 28, stopping whenever something caught our eye. I saw this birdhous in the garden of a tiny antique shop and fell in love with it.
@bardejov We have a bird feeder and a couple of suet feeders just a few yards away from this bird house. Apparently birds need to be fed even more when they are nesting than during the winter. Maybe if you put out a feeder, they would take up residence. Good luck!
