I have visited the herring run in Brewster for the past three days and my last two photos have been of herring being gobbled up by seagulls. But that is only part of the story. Today I wanted to capture a photo of at least one who made it past the seagull brigade. 376 photos later (and that is just today), this is the best I got.
Most of the herring make the "jump" deep within the water because the current isn't as strong there (thank you, Tom, for that info). So their passage is more of a quick slip than an actual leap.
376 photos later!! Good grief! You must have been patient! Great to see what you have achieved! The water looks gorgeous! I could dive into it with the herring!
Nice to see one making it up the ladder! They are hard to catch, I know. Even the ones who are visible when they make their move are so fast it's nearly impossible to click the shot before they are already gone. Good catch, Laurie.
Ok, you have terrific determination which I admire!! This is a great shot. It's kind of like the salmon run around me, but herring are so much smaller to capture!
Perseverance pays off! This is inspiring and a very cool capture! I took over 500 photos over the weekend--not too many keepers! I feel your pain LH! Have a super weekend! :-)
wow - I've never seen anything like that! awesome shot, my friend!! really really cool. Believe me, I took a gazillion photos at Coachella and am not happy with most of them. I feel you. xo
Love all of your shots of the herring run. I wonder if the one in Bournedale is doing the same thing? Anyway, another FAV for you on this one. Were you IN the water?
@sailingmusic Thank you, Myrna! The stream actually curves here, so I was crouched down on a rock with a straight view up the next three ladders. These fish are FAST!
