This historic church was first built in 1700 as a Puritan church and the Meeting House that established my hometown of Brewster as a town separate from the town of Harwich. It has been rebuilt three times, most recently in 1834 and it has been a Unitarian Church since the mid 1800's. It was recently given a major rehab that included a new foundation, roof and other improvements.
@westcoastwallis Those Puritans actually were pretty intimidating, Paula. They came here for religious freedom and then were maniacs themselves. I went back and forth between this and a more conventional "pretty" shot I took of the whole building. I'm working on more experiments this year, for better or for worse.
Have you read the book "Cape Cod?" I picked it up one night while working in Hyannis, even though it's a work of fiction it has enough historical facts in it to be informative. The Puritans were tyranical!
@l2lumom I not only read the book "Cape Cod," but I've interviewed the author, William Martin. I'm a journalist and I write about books, food and the arts. Bill Martin is not only a great writer, but a really nice guy.
@lauriehiggins Very cool! After reading that book I sought out and read "Back Bay." I'm an avid reader, or I should say I was before my kids took up all my time.... That sounds like a really interesting job. I'm a nurse by trade, and that's why I was working/living on Cape. I was a travel nurse back then.
