We Love Caroline...

Every two months my daughter, Julie, and I go to a shared hair appointment with our hairdresser, Caroline. I've been going to Caroline for eight years and Julie's been going for just about as long. It's always a really fun mother/daughter afternoon being pampered by one of our favorite people. It seemed like a good opportunity to practice more candid photos because they were too busy catching up to pay much attention to me. I love seeing Julie's unselfconscious smile. It makes that monthly payment (we're still paying!) for braces so, so worth it. Before the braces, she never showed her teeth when she smiled.
Well now surely you could have caught yourself in a selfie in the mirror here....:)

As a hairdresser I enjoy seeing someone else at work! Great candid shot!

Great candid, and love the smile.

As another ex-hairdresser I recognise the confidence in handling the hair! And - that smile is a wonderful one!

Great smile!

She looks quite happy in her spirit

@westcoastwallis But then THEY would have seen me. As soon as Julie noticed my camera, she put her head down so her hair covered her face. Remember the comments from my support system on my last selfie? Today's gems: Mom: you should take another self portrait now that you've had your hair done. Husband: It looks nice, but are you going to be able to recreate that again tomorrow? I guess I should have taken another selfie today!

A peek into the secret life at the hairdresser! She has a beautiful smile! I think I'll be looking at some braces for my girls soon! :-o Great candid, Laura!

she is beautiful.
sounds like such a nice time for you and her.

What a great photo! You captured a really nice smile. How awesome that getting braces helped to bring out her natural smile. We have a very close friend who tries not to open his mouth in photos, and it makes me sad! I just read that in Japan, women pay to make their teeth crooked! http://storify.com/articlepro1979/snag-this-in-japan-straight-teeth-are-out-and-the

@lauriehiggins wow - they spend a lot of time making you feel amazing, eh? lol!! They almost sound like movie characters:)

A perfect candid shot and she does have a wonderful smile

Glorious shot. I'm taking the course at the New Falmouth Art Center.

@westcoastwallis At least they make me laugh - at them and myself. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say movie characters. Maybe sitcom? Seriously, they are my best cheerleaders.
January 17th, 2013
@ellen That article blew me away, Ellen!
January 17th, 2013
Pickle's my biggest cheerleader right now, she's always shouting about how I'm the BEST MOMMY! I hope she never ever turns into a teenager, lol
January 17th, 2013
@orangecrush Get ready for some big, but worthwhile, loans, Jerry!
January 17th, 2013
@westcoastwallis Well, of course Pickle is absolutely right, smart girl that she is! The teenage years can be rough. I had two tough ones, two easy peasy ones. This girl was one of the easy ones. Hope your little sweetie is as kind to you as this little girl is to me.

Ah, I know that self conscious lack of teeth smile all too well.
January 17th, 2013
So pretty - just like her momma. What a lovely and meaningful tradition for the two of you. xo
January 17th, 2013
@stepheesue Best part - it's a really small salon, so it was just the three of us for two hours, except for the half hour our hairdresser's mom came in to say hi because she loves us too. It reaffirms what I love most about living in a small town.

It sounds like Mayberry - so sweet. I am in Florida visiting my mommy so I am hoping to get off a few shots but so far it's a lot of flat strip malls. Probably not so interesting. But I have my camera with me and I'm going to hope for the best! :).
January 17th, 2013
@stepheesue It's like Mayberry with beaches and a really cool art scene! Have fun with your mommy (I'm a bit envious of that since I miss mine up in Vermont). And take photos of strip malls if need be - or one of your mother would be awesome and you would always be happy you have it. This I know to be true...

Lovely candid and sounds like a great mother - daughter time.

Love this candid photo! And love that you both go and have your hair done together. :)
