Every two months my daughter, Julie, and I go to a shared hair appointment with our hairdresser, Caroline. I've been going to Caroline for eight years and Julie's been going for just about as long. It's always a really fun mother/daughter afternoon being pampered by one of our favorite people. It seemed like a good opportunity to practice more candid photos because they were too busy catching up to pay much attention to me. I love seeing Julie's unselfconscious smile. It makes that monthly payment (we're still paying!) for braces so, so worth it. Before the braces, she never showed her teeth when she smiled.
@westcoastwallis But then THEY would have seen me. As soon as Julie noticed my camera, she put her head down so her hair covered her face. Remember the comments from my support system on my last selfie? Today's gems: Mom: you should take another self portrait now that you've had your hair done. Husband: It looks nice, but are you going to be able to recreate that again tomorrow? I guess I should have taken another selfie today!
A peek into the secret life at the hairdresser! She has a beautiful smile! I think I'll be looking at some braces for my girls soon! :-o Great candid, Laura!
What a great photo! You captured a really nice smile. How awesome that getting braces helped to bring out her natural smile. We have a very close friend who tries not to open his mouth in photos, and it makes me sad! I just read that in Japan, women pay to make their teeth crooked! http://storify.com/articlepro1979/snag-this-in-japan-straight-teeth-are-out-and-the
@westcoastwallis At least they make me laugh - at them and myself. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say movie characters. Maybe sitcom? Seriously, they are my best cheerleaders.
@westcoastwallis Well, of course Pickle is absolutely right, smart girl that she is! The teenage years can be rough. I had two tough ones, two easy peasy ones. This girl was one of the easy ones. Hope your little sweetie is as kind to you as this little girl is to me.
@stepheesue Best part - it's a really small salon, so it was just the three of us for two hours, except for the half hour our hairdresser's mom came in to say hi because she loves us too. It reaffirms what I love most about living in a small town.
It sounds like Mayberry - so sweet. I am in Florida visiting my mommy so I am hoping to get off a few shots but so far it's a lot of flat strip malls. Probably not so interesting. But I have my camera with me and I'm going to hope for the best! :).
@stepheesue It's like Mayberry with beaches and a really cool art scene! Have fun with your mommy (I'm a bit envious of that since I miss mine up in Vermont). And take photos of strip malls if need be - or one of your mother would be awesome and you would always be happy you have it. This I know to be true...
sounds like such a nice time for you and her.
