It has been so cold that Cape Cod Bay has completely iced over. As far as you can see it is only ice, and no water. We haven't seen any ice for at least two years, but I've never seen so much ice that you can't still see some water. Apparently salt water actually can freeze if it gets cold enough. The ice heaves are caused by the tide coming in and out.
I left Sandwich to head for Maine on Dec. 23, 2002, so there hadn't been time for any freezing but I've got some similar pictures from our cottage on Lake Ontario from years past. It's amazing how the ice grows and grows into what could be considered icebergs. Looks like a very crisp day on Cape.
