Uriarra Crossing flooded - Canberra - Infra red photography
I went out for a ride on the Vespa today with my cameras, it has been awhile since I experimented wit the infra red converted cameras. It was my longest ever ride and I figured out how to strap the camera backpack to the back of the seat. Next step will be to figure out how to carry the tripod.
Over the last week or two a lot of places in NSW, Victoria and Queensland have had many days of rain leading to floods, hundreds if not thousands of people are still unable to return to their homes after evacuations.
Uriarra Crossing is a low level bridge crossing across the Murrumbidgee River, I was standing in the middle of the blocked off road, the double white lines can be seen middle foreground and the road re-emrges on the other side of the flood waters. I like the surreal effect that IR has given to the whole scene, darkening the sky and water (which was brown) and lightening the trees.
The flooding is looking very powerful across the ford. The impact of infrared is really noticeable in highlighting bushes. When I lived in outback everyone would fight over who would get to drive into town and get the adventure of crossing through flooded rivers and creeks over fords
@jenrobcarr@filsie65 thanks, but very little of this is done post processing (I just pushed the contrast a little), I have a camera where the sensor has been modified where "visible light" below 850nm is blocked and only light on the infrared spectrum passes through. ..... well at least that's how I think it works.
@lbmcshutter For someone with a fairly basic 'point and shoot' it's all mystifying and wonderful! I guess you process it before the shot is taken, I might process it afterwards... you've certainly inspired me to have a play when I get to the end of the alphabet! :)
I would love to get an IR converted camera. I did some IR shooting years ago when I did my own darkroom work, predigital. I love this fairytale look with the white trees. Neat shot.
@falcon11 I have a bit of an eBay addiction at times and I bought a couple of cheaper IR converted cameras on eBay and need to use them more (I have several at different wavelengths - I really spent far too much money in total).
I loved the look of IR shots (from film) in photography books and really wanted to try it, when I found out that digital cameras could be converted I decided that one day I would own one. I love the high contrast b&w Ir shots, but also love the false colour ones - just trying to find the right program to convert it now that my free trial of photoshop has expired ..... I can't afford the full version and cannot qualify for the student version
Having fun on your Vespa, eh? Great contrast here for IF; it's kind of jarring to me because it is so unreal..........but it sure has high interest.
(Hope normality returns soon to those displaced. Jeeze, you guys have had it bad again this year; farmer's got flooded out again, all the fires last month, and now this. Can only hope for best for everybody. X)
All my best, Les x
