Prior to my trip, when I found out that my travels would take me to Llanelli, Wales I hopped online to see what things I may see in the area and discovered there were wetlands with all sorts of waterfowl. I was more than a little surprised to learn they had a flock of flamingos there, on learning that I decided I had to go there. There was a lot of sights I'd imagined I'd see in Wales, but flamingos had not been one of them.
I was lucky that my host also enjoys photography and he was happy to indulge my desire to see welsh flamingos.
Even though we'd not seen each other in 25 years, and we'd not even lived in the same city as each other in 25 years it was amazing to learn how much we had in common. We had shared interests, hobbies, opinions, values, tastes and pretty much anything else. At first we were saying "what do you think about ...?" followed by "me too..." or "do you like .....?" "me too ....." or "I think ........" "me too ......" But quickly we just would assume that if one of us liked something (or disliked something) the other would too. If one of us was relating a story or an interest or a value, the other would soon be saying "of course you do/don't ......me too".
Very quickly it was as though 25 years had not passed, we were so comfortable with each other again, but our maturity made it a lot better.
@bobfoto I think they must clip the wings of the water fowl there - hey have species from all over the world and try to keep the birds in their own sections (but they do wander over and visit with each other) - so I am less happy about that aspect - but the birds all seem happy and healthy
@lbmcshutter - In the Adelaide Zoo they had pink flamingos and it was discovered that the birds will only mate if there is a crowd, so they temporarily installed mirrors into their enclosure to try and convince the birds to 'have a go'...
