Wallflowers

This is the third year that these have flowered and they won't last another season but they smell wonderful.
Beautiful flowers. What are they? I've never heard of flowers that last for three years. We have *annuals* which last for one year only; and *perennials* which last a good long time.

@jimmyveee I would normally buy wallflower plants in the Autumn and put them in the garden late September/October. They flower the following Spring. After flowering I cut them down and they often start to grow again in the Autumn and flower for a second spring. This patch was growing next to a vigorous rose bush and were forgotton in the Autumn so they have come up for a third, unexpected year. I shall pull them up when they have finished flowering and buy some new plants this Autumn. They have an absolutely wonderful scent that fills the area of the garden where they grow.

@lellie Thank you for the explanation. I never connected these flowers with the term *Wallflowers*.
