Victim of storm Brendan

This old apple tree has been standing to my certain knowledge for 42 years, probably longer.
We have been debating taking it down as it’s pretty dead and only served as a vehicle for bird feeders and the honeysuckle.
The decision was taken out of our hands last night when a combination of very strong winds and saturated ground felled it.
Sad to see it go though.
What a shame - but it doesn't look as if it has made any damage to anything else !

@beryl No it didn’t. What was left of the roots just lifted from the saturated ground and it fell onto the very sturdy fence.

Always sad to see trees die and have to be removed.

Interesting to see another tree further back with a big lean on it!

@speedwell A much younger apple tree and not dead like the old one but completely unproductive. Think this may have to go as well. I don’t think we will replant yet if at all. There are a lot of trees in the garden and we have recently planted Two hawthorn and a nut tree as part of a sustainable hedge at the end.

Good to know you are planting for the wildlife. Looks as though you will be ok for firewood for a while!
