Plantains are part of the banana family. These tropical plantain are smaller that what we usually get in the US, but tropical plantains are delicious fried, boiled or used in combination with other cooked food.
@wakelys - We just wait for the plantain to ripen a little bit (it it turns yellow), open up the fruit, cut the lengthwise and just fry it. Or boil the plantain with the outer covering still on; when it turns brown it's done. Peel like a banana and eat.
