thats a great find. I always thought they had to keep a straight face back in the day becuase of the long exposure time. Or perhaps it was just a Victorian thing!!
Such an amazing photo! Especially for this period of time! @brigette is correct in that they had to be as expressionless as possible because of that long exposure time. What it must have taken for him to maintain this expression for as long as it took for the photo to be taken. A real treasure here, Lin.
